New sedimentological investigations on marine area next to La Maddalena Archipelago (NE Sardinia), between Porto Pozzo bay and Punta Sardegna, identified deposit and dispersion mechanisms on inner shelf low energy areas (to determine sediments origin and the influence of relationship between siliciclastic and biogenic components). 9 different facies groups, related to present-day deposizional environments, have been determined by grain size and compositional samples analysis. Deposits consist of siliciclastic, finer-mixed (silici-bioclastic) and bioclastic sands, which distribution is straight influenced by Posidonia oceanica bank’s. The presence of siliciclastic materials, mainly quartz and feldspar, is due to granite outcrops alterations, fluvial terrigenous inputs and relict shoreface sedimentes. The Posidonia oceanica bank provides the most biogenic input, by the production of organic matter, associated with carbonates organisms (Mollusks, Bryozoans, Echinoids and Foraminifera).
