The tower houses are attested in Sardinia between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The contacts with the Mediterranean countries, with the center of Italy, but also the local urban culture of the Judicial phase may explain their presence in earlier stages. We recognize two types of tower houses. The former are developed in height, placed in very dense urban areas built terraced houses. It is documented of simple and others composed of two towers and adjoining houses. The latter are typical of rural or villages characterized by living tissues at court, matrix archaic Mediterranean. The towers in these cases are less high but no less significant in their role as a symbol of social and public representation. Indicated in the documents of Pisa as "turri" in the Sardinian language, may refer to more archaic models relating to the regional urban reality.
