The city of Alghero, harbor on the northwest coast of Sardinia, now in its historical part is configured in ways dictated by the design of the sixteenth century fortifications wanted by Charles V and Philip II of Spain. As a result of the changes that have occurred since the nineteenth century, today the city has some "wounds" at crucial points of interconnection between the areas of the walled city and later extensions. Elements of special importance to the city are the towers built in the first half of the sixteenth century, only survivors of the inland front of fortification. After the demolition of an important part of the walls, today these buildings, decontextualized from their original configura-tion, take on new meanings within the urban context. This study investigates the relationship between historic and contemporary city, focusing on the three towers that make up the main poles of the urban landscape today. From the remains of the defensive line, this paper proposes a virtual reconstruction of the face of the earth as it might appear at the end of the sixteenth century. The interconnection be-tween the old town and the modern city stands today as a spread made of gray areas that, due to its strategic location, are an opportunity and impetus for the development of this important part of the city. An analysis of the events that led through the centuries to the structure of current design, the towers become an opportunity to return readability context and investigate the causes and dynamics of change. These monuments, now isolated in an urban context altered and compromise, are important sites for a rereading and a redesign around the contact line between the old and the new city.
