Abstract

Through a careful analysis of the feminine epithets employed in the Catalogue ascribed to Hesiod, it is envisaged the possibility to achieve a relative chronology of that work, tracing the development of the formulaic diction, that proves to be an instrument created (perhaps in Boeotia) for the sake of traditional, that is oral, composition of catalogic poetry.
