In the paper a new predictive control technique of microprocessorized brushless drives using PM motor is proposed. Initially, the paper summarizes the mathematical model of PM synchronous motor and a feeding algorithm imposing the constant value of the electromagnetic torquel magnitude of the current space-vector ratio. With reference to microprocessor-based controllers, the proposed predictive technique is based on the numerical evaluation of the current which would be present in the armature windings, in correspondence of each one of the possible inverter states. Among the predicted current values, the control technique selects the closest one to the reference current imposed by feeding algorithm and, consequently, modifies the state of the supply VSI inverter. The results of numerical simulation of such a control of PM motor drive are shown and compared to the corresponding ones obtained by using hysteresis controllers.
