Abstract

The paper deals with the diffu-sion of the worship of saints be-longing to Iberian hagiographic heritage in order to draw atten-tion to an aspect too often asso-ciated with the arrival of people in this geographic and cultural area. Beginning with the 14th century, the paper looks back at the early Middle Age and at-tempts at tracing the origin of this devotion in historical sources and archeological and monumental records. The cults of saints James and Eulalia, for example, are analyzed together with the “cults revivified”, al-ready known in the Island (George and Sebastian); and the new forms of the cult of Virgin.
