The paper explores ways of action in the requalification process of an existing building, obviously, depending on the different needs, on the different contexts and on the historical and architectural value. In particular the paper describes two opposite types of intervention whose differences find a strong analogy with the possibilities of evolution of celestial bodies. There is a type of intervention "Supernova" which provides a complete regeneration of the building, with the creation of new outer layers, new skins, opaque or transparent, designed to meet the current needs of energy saving and through the use of new materials and innovative construction techniques. The mode of action "black hole" is a complete inner transformation of the building (facadisme). The paper analyzes the possibilities of action - explosion versus implosion - identifying strengths, weaknesses and limitations with respect to the preservation of historical heritage and through the analysis of some case studies of great interest.
