The importance of Italian immigration in the growth of Uruguay as a modern nation has been the object of many studies during the 20th century, as much as the role played by immigration from different areas of Italy. The same cannot be said about the specific aspects of immigration from Sardinia into Uruguay, whose studies began only in the 21st century through the work done by the SEA Centre for Studies from Villacidro and the Consulate of Uruguay in Cagliari. Given the paucity of direct flow from Sardinia into Banda Oriental, their contribu‐tion is mostly qualitative; a few studies on the relationship between Sardinia and Uruguay are also consi‐dered.
