With the purpose of a morphodynamic and sedimentological characterization, using the Brambati and De Muro’s methods, the coastal systems of Is Arenas (Narbolia) and Porto Giunco-Simius (Villasimius), located respectively on the middle western and south eastern coast of Sardinia, have been analyzed. They are characterized by values of mean annual energy of the incident waves ranging between the highest and the lowest of Sardinia. In the beach of Is Arenas, formed by medium sands, there is a longshore trend of sedimentary transport from NE to SO, as pointed out from the fining of the grain sizes in all the sedimentary body and confirmed by the hydrodynamic models obtained using the meteomarine conditions prevailing on this coast. This trend is also highlighted by a reduction, in the same direction, of the surf zone and partially of the slope of the emerged beach and of the mobility of the shoreline. For its morphologic characteristics ,the beach can be ascribed to the multibar intermediate type with a tendency towards the RBB (rhytmic bar and beach) state at SO and TBR (transverse bar and rip) at NE. The comparison of the general slopes of the submerged beach could put it in the family of the Italian beaches defined as “apparently in equilibrium, weakly or tendentially in erosion” (Brambati and Finocchiaro, 1988). The equation of the regression line is very similar to those obtained by Brambati and Finocchiaro (1988) for the beaches of southeast Sicily and Tuscany and by Brambati and DeMuro (1992) for northern Sardinian ones. At Villasimius, the outcrop of the rocky basement in the middle part of the beach divide it in two subunits (Porto Giunco and Simius). The sedimentary body, formed by fine sands, shows a longshore trend of sedimentary transport towards the middle parts of the two beaches. For its morphologic features the beach can be ascribed to the multibar intermediate types with a tendency to the RBB (rhytmic bar and beach) and LBT (longshore bar trough) states. The comparison of the general slopes of the submerged beach could put it in the erosional families, however the equation of the regression line is anomalous and isn’t comparable with those of the other Italian families.
