<dc:description>In the present PhD thesis I propose the study and pharmacobiological optimization of a class of quinazolin-5,8-dione-based (QDs) compounds that showed promising antitumor activity against pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) as well as other tumor types. In the same context of developing new active compounds against resistant cancer forms, I propose the study of a novel class of selective carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (CAI) targeting the human isoforms IX and XII (hCA IX and XII) overexpressed in several cancer types. Additionally, I propose the development of a serie of multivalent inhibitors designed to optimize both selectivity and potency against different hCA isoforms.</dc:description>
