The Sardinian language frequently exploits the peripheral positions of the sentence, both on the right and the left, for pragmatic purposes; in this way a phrastic chain is connected to a wider (il)locutional context: which may be expressed, or assumed, or to be assumed. One of such elements, in the left periphery, is 'ello', which may have different functions and even different hints and undertones. At the right periphery, the Complements of the Verb are often anticipated by clitics; this anticipation marginalizes Verb Complements, giving them the function of a topic or a focus. Even the position of the Subject as well, in a pro-drop language as Sardinian, may be affected by defocusing processes, so that the Subject can be marginalized to the right, as a topic-tail, or an afterthought.

Abstract
The Sardinian language frequently exploits the peripheral positions of the sentence, both on the right and the left, for pragmatic purposes; in this way a phrastic chain is connected to a wider (il)locutional context: which may be expressed, or assumed, or to be assumed. One of such elements, in the left periphery, is 'ello', which may have different functions and even different hints and undertones. At the right periphery, the Complements of the Verb are often anticipated by clitics; this anticipation marginalizes Verb Complements, giving them the function of a topic or a focus. Even the position of the Subject as well, in a pro-drop language as Sardinian, may be affected by defocusing processes, so that the Subject can be marginalized to the right, as a topic-tail, or an afterthought.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
