A cavallo della tigre? Il catalogo tra web 2.0 e semantic web

To compete with the web search engines, OPACs have more and more enhanced the Keyword search options, usually exploited in the IR field, with a negative impact on their performance. The most recent developments towards semantic web based search engines go back to focus on the centrality of the metadata and therefore seem to open a new phase of convergence with the world of libraries. The author analyzes these perspectives, concluding that such a convergence is actually apparent, because metadata in the semantic web are by definition unstructured, decontextualized and deprived of their bibliographic function.
