The chapter discusses the creation of a specialized group of psychoanalysts, clinical psychologists and anthropologists aimed at the study of etno-psychological issues involving migrants and refugees in Italy. This project entailed the revision of some paradigmatic aspects of some fundamental tenets of the psychoanalytic model, and a strong reference to some paradigmatic principles of Jungian psychology, such as the nature of symbol-formation and of the psychic activity as an intrinsic culture-making process. Along these lines, a discussion of the fundamental elements belonging to a intercultural psychotherapeutic setting have been developed, based of the concept of the emerging and intersubjective fields and on the bio-psychological principle of specificity and personalization.
