Una fonte del 1756 ricostruita per la flotta piemontese ad Alghero. A Source Dated 1756 Rebuilt for the Piedmontese Fleet in Alghero

In a site identified by military reconnaissance surveys along the coast at the end of the Sixteenth century, a few hundred metres from the inner beach of Porto Conte, the remains of a monumental source reveal new data on the local history. The study of its inscription, dated 1756, allows us to attribute the patronage of the reconstruction of a pre-existing source to a certain Tommaso Guibert, commander of the Piedmontese fleet, clearly based there. The style which characterises it can be referred to the circle of Augusto de la Vallée and reflects elements of the Sicilian and Piedmontese late Baroque. The reconstruction of this source, as noted in other cases, reuses small reclaimed elements, quite likely as a memory of the previous work.

Su di un sito rilevato dalle ricognizioni costiere militari della fine del Cinquecento, a poche centinaia di metri dalla spiaggia interna di Porto Conte, i resti di una fonte monumentale rivelano nuovi dati sulla storia del luogo. La lettura della sua epigrafe, datata 1756, permette di attribuire ad un certo Tommaso Guibert, comandante della flotta piemontese evidentemente lì stanziata, il patrocinio della ricostruzione di una fonte preesistente. I modi stilistici che la contraddistinguono sono riferibili alla cerchia di Augusto de la Vallée e rispecchiano elementi del tardo barocco siciliano e piemontese. La ricostruzione in questa fonte, come rilevato in altri casi, riusa piccoli elementi di spoglio, verosimilmente quale memoria della precedente opera.
