The weave and the curve. Reflections on the city and its plastic dimension Analysing the city and its inner weave means to catch and define the dominant correlations between sensorial and semantic isotopies. This also means that the researcher has the possibility to start the analysis from the plastic dimension of the city. Looking at the way colours, forms, dispositions and matters articulate meaningful contrasts and connections, sets of likenesses and differences, the city with its contents reveals the capacity to “stand for” something else or to even talk about itself. To exemplify and demonstrate this kind of possibility and contribute to the international research developed altogether with the colleague of the universities of Rome “La Sapienza” and PUC-São Paulo we will put São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Rome in correlation. As we will see this exploration will take as departing point a shared quality in the three cities’ landscapes: a sign-figure stored in the common sense of the three cities’ inhabitants – the hill (o morro in Portuguese, la collina in Italian) - and a plastic trait that acts as a device to recall and produce memories, discourses and practices – the curve.

Abstract
As we will see this exploration will take as departing point a shared quality in the three cities’ landscapes: a sign-figure stored in the common sense of the three cities’ inhabitants – the hill (o morro in Portuguese, la collina in Italian) - and a plastic trait that acts as a device to recall and produce memories, discourses and practices – the curve.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
