The article is focused on the analysis of four French Beur literature novels and shows in particular how language is used by characters as an instrument to express their own cultural and identity conflict. Starting from the novel’s titles, passing through the words in verlan or in a French permeated by linguistic traces of the speakers’ arabic origins, beur novel expresses a variety of forms that effectively reveal a loss of cultural and social identity.
