The essay examines about 300 registers of notarial deeds, preserved in the State Archives of Florence, with the aim, on the one hand, of describing the potential of the source for the history of the Florentine business world in the fourteenth century; and, on the other, of outlining the figures of some notaries particularly involved in the sectors of commerce, banking and large urban manufactures. What emerges is an exceptional framework, able to open unthinkable glimpses on the the economy of Florence in the age of Boccaccio, that is for a time when the available accounting sources are still quantitatively scarce.

Abstract
The essay examines about 300 registers of notarial deeds, preserved in the State Archives of Florence, with the aim, on the one hand, of describing the potential of the source for the history of the Florentine business world in the fourteenth century; and, on the other, of outlining the figures of some notaries particularly involved in the sectors of commerce, banking and large urban manufactures. What emerges is an exceptional framework, able to open unthinkable glimpses on the the economy of Florence in the age of Boccaccio, that is for a time when the available accounting sources are still quantitatively scarce.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
