The importance of the palimpsestes verbo-culturels in learning a foreign language and culture has been masterly highlighted by Robert Galisson in his works on lexiculture. Galisson shows how difficult it is - for a foreign learner - to read between the lines of the palimpsestes, and to discern the underlying cultural aspects notwithstanding their frequent use, especially in the press. After collecting a series of PVC from the headlines of French magazines and newspapers, we investigated if and which lexical elements listed in bilingual French-Italian dictionaries referred to underlying cultural facts and, therefore, whether those dictionaries could represent a suitable tool for the foreign learner.
