Carmelo Bene: fonti della poetica

At the climax of his multifaceted career, extended from theatre to literature, cinema and television, from 1979 Carmelo Bene proposed on the Italian stages a hybrid genre that had undoubtedly been minor in the history of European theater, but that played a crucial role in the development of the relations between the arts of the stage and the music. For Bene, the ‘adventure’ into the melologues repertoire was, on the one hand, the result of intuitions and sensibility shared with some of the protagonists of the music scene of those years; on the other hand, it was the result of historical paths and cultural heritage, investigated in this study, which consent to trace some unexpected sources in the poetics of the famous Italian actor. The book contains a final section dedicated to the elaboration by Bene of Byron-Schumann's Manfred, examined through the wide range of instruments deployed by the actor to enhance the vocal presence and the expressivity of the dramatic poem with music.

All’apice della sua multiforme carriera, estesa dal teatro alla letteratura, dalla radio al cinema e alla televisione, Carmelo Bene propose sulle scene italiane un genere ibrido che era stato senz’altro minore nella storia del teatro europeo, ma sempre presente e gravido di conseguenze per gli sviluppi delle arti della scena e della musica. La stagione dei melologhi fu, da un lato, frutto di intuizioni e di sensibilità condivise con alcuni protagonisti della scena musicale di quegli anni; dall’altro, fu l’esito di percorsi storici e di eredità culturali, oggetto di scavo in questo studio, che consentono di rintracciare alcune fonti inattese nella poetica dell’attore salentino. Il libro si conclude con una sezione dedicata alla rielaborazione da parte di Bene del Manfred di Byron-Schumann, esaminata attraverso l’ampio ventaglio degli strumenti dispiegati dall’attore per esaltare la presenza vocale e la forza espressiva del poema drammatico con musica.
