China's influence in the international media sector has increased significantly over the last decade. The move has been orchestrated by the central government with the aim to expand the country's soft power and discourse power by directly presenting China's point of view on local and international news to audiences outside of China. After highlinghting the characteristics of the Chinese "model" of journalism and of the Chinese media system, the contribution discusses the different strategies used by China's media outlets to expand their influence in other countries' media systems and proposes a five-model classification: expansion, acquisition, inflitration, cooperation and protection.
