This introduction tackles the history of usage of the term 'bourgeoisie' in Italian culture and his main critics/scholars. Especially critical of its application to the rising Italian "class media" was Benedetto Croce whose 1931 essay on the topic is here analyzed and discussed vis-a-vis Alberto Banti's studies on Italian bourgeoisie (see Storia della borghesia) as a way to pave the presentation of the essays composing the volume edited by myself.
