The École des Ponts et Chaussées is a successful training institution in eighteenth-century France, a model for many European schools of bridges and roads established. Among these, the Scuola dei Volontari di Ponti e Strade established in Sardinia by Giovanni Antonio Carbonazzi in 1822, stands out for the almost faithful reinterpretation of the Parisian institution characteristics. The school is proposed in the Savoy Kingdom as the first and original case of reproduction of the École des Ponts et Chaussées model, alternative to slightly previous cases, such as those of the Papal State and the Kingdom of Naples. A successful experience that contributes to the debate on training update of engineers and architects in the Kingdom of Sardinia, which will lead to the foundation of the Polytechnic of Turin in 1859.
