Using the italian "imperfetto" instead of the "congiuntivo" in colloquial italian in conditional sentences is considered as a grammatical error. We want to demostrate that such use is logically right and that the extension of this use will not contaminate the whole italian verbal system because of the morphological structure of the verb conditional forms. Such verbal items use the morphological suffixes of the "passato remoto" and not the suffixes of the "imperfetto" as we can observe in French. Italian and french language acquisition presents a common cognitive approach that is important to note. We also assert that the use of a past tense verbal form eams to create, grammatically, the idea of a virtual or "non real" process. This accommunates the "imperfetto" to other "modes" such congiuntivo, imperativo and condizionale.
