No treatises or recipe books are known about the making techniques of Sardinian pictorial polyptychs made in the modern age, but only a few information that can be deduced from commission contracts, in which the materials to be used and the technique to be adopted were occasionally specified. However, thanks to diagnostic investigations, it is possible to reconstruct a fair sample of practices, methods, techniques and pigments used in Sardinia. In addition, the “colour indications”, readable thanks to infrared reflectography, allow to associate precise terms with certain pigments, thus contributing to the definition of the historical nomenclature of colours. The aim of this contribution is to offer an overview of the pictorial techniques of Sardinian polyptychs, functional to the comparison with other areas and geographical contexts.

Abstract
No treatises or recipe books are known about the making techniques of Sardinian pictorial polyptychs made in the modern age, but only a few information that can be deduced from commission contracts, in which the materials to be used and the technique to be adopted were occasionally specified. However, thanks to diagnostic investigations, it is possible to reconstruct a fair sample of practices, methods, techniques and pigments used in Sardinia. In addition, the “colour indications”, readable thanks to infrared reflectography, allow to associate precise terms with certain pigments, thus contributing to the definition of the historical nomenclature of colours. The aim of this contribution is to offer an overview of the pictorial techniques of Sardinian polyptychs, functional to the comparison with other areas and geographical contexts.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
