Blade production is among the most curated flaking methods. With reference to the surrounding mainland area, blade(let)s technology in Sardinia is a quite recent phenomenon, dating back not earlier than the VI millennium BCE. Strikingly, despite the local availability of an abundant obsidian source, this high-quality raw material seems to have been generally disregarded to produce long regular blades. Such a specialized activity, possibly performed by travelling craftsmen coming from overseas, suddenly appears around the beginning of the IV millennium for the local exploitation of a fine-grained flint in the Anglona region. This paper deals with a scanty evidence of obsidian blades production by pressure techniques, unrelated with the local tradition in the reduction system.

Abstract
Blade production is among the most curated flaking methods. With reference to the surrounding mainland area, blade(let)s technology in Sardinia is a quite recent phenomenon, dating back not earlier than the VI millennium BCE. Strikingly, despite the local availability of an abundant obsidian source, this high-quality raw material seems to have been generally disregarded to produce long regular blades. Such a specialized activity, possibly performed by travelling craftsmen coming from overseas, suddenly appears around the beginning of the IV millennium for the local exploitation of a fine-grained flint in the Anglona region. This paper deals with a scanty evidence of obsidian blades production by pressure techniques, unrelated with the local tradition in the reduction system.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
