Second part of the Italian edition, edited by Paolo Dal Molin, of Joy H. Calico's Arnold Schoenberg’s "A Survivor from Warsaw" in Postwar Europe, University of California Press, 2014. The unpublished study delves into the reception of A Survivor from Warsaw in 1950s and 1960s Italy. This reception, on one hand, strengthened Schoenberg's reputation, helping him become one of the most influential figures for the new generation of composers. On the other hand, it revealed the contradictions of a country undergoing reconstruction, which had not yet developed a collective awareness of the persecution and genocide of the Jews. The study is based on archival sources related to the first Italian performances of the work and a review of both generalist and specialized press. The first distribution of A Survivor is examined as part of the concert program construction process; the reception is analyzed in light of the historical categories of aesthetic criticism in music and broad categories from Holocaust memory studies.
Seconda parte dell’edizione italiana, curata da Paolo Dal Molin, di Joy H. Calico, “Arnold Schoenberg’s 'A Survivor from Warsaw' in Postwar Europe”, University of California Press, 2014.

Abstract
The first distribution of A Survivor is examined as part of the concert program construction process; the reception is analyzed in light of the historical categories of aesthetic criticism in music and broad categories from Holocaust memory studies.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
