Michael Schmidt photographed the southern part of Friedrichstadt in the early 1980s, but did not publish those pictures until some time after the fall of the Wall and the reconstruction of that part of Berlin as a mnemonic, ghostly image. These are the areas that architects had in the meantime reinterpreted both through plans and the construction of new buildings. What emerges from the comparison between the photographer's vision and that of the architects is a radical discrepancy that is worth investigating.
Michael Schmidt fotografa la parte meridionale della Friedrichstadt all'inizio degli anni '80, ma pubblica quelle foto solo tempo dopo la caduta del muro e la ricostruzione di quella parte di Berlino, come immagine mnemonica e fantasmatica. Si tratta delle aree che nel frattempo gli architetti avevano reinterpretato sia attraverso progetti che con la realizzazione di nuovi edifici.
