In the overall picture of nineteenth-century Sardinia, the descriptions and drawings, when present, of the island's medieval monuments and works contained in the seventeenth-eighteenth-century and early nineteenth-century texts, which gave rise to this type of literature, extended by the mid-1920s. In the proposed intervention, the narratives of the buildings and works encountered, more or less casually, during the reconnaissances of Carrillo, Fuos and Della Marmora's travels will be examined, and they will be compared with the graphic representations, when present, to try to understand what value they gave to these contexts, in relation to classical antiquities, what critical categories they applied, what terminology they used in their repertoires, some of which were used in the second half of the nineteenth century by the island scholars in the first attempts to classify medieval architecture of Sardinia.
Nel quadro di insieme della Sardegna ottocentesca assumono una notevole importanza le descrizioni e i disegni, quando presenti, dei monumenti e delle opere medievali isolane contenuti nei testi, sei-settecenteschi e dei primi dell’Ottocento, che hanno dato l’avvio a tale tipo di letteratura, estesi entro la metà degli anni ’20 del XIX secolo. Nell’intervento che si propone si esamineranno le narrazioni degli edifici e delle opere incontrate, più o meno casualmente, nel corso delle ricognizioni di Carrillo, di Fuos e nei viaggi di Della Marmora, e si raffronteranno con le rappresentazioni grafiche, quando presenti, per cercare di comprendere quale valore essi dessero a tali contesti, in rapporto alle antichità classiche, quali categorie critiche applicassero, quale terminologia utilizzassero nei loro repertori, alcuni dei quali utilizzati nella seconda metà dell’Ottocento dagli eruditi isolani nei primi tentativi di classificazione delle architetture medievali della Sardegna.
