The essay focuses on the spread of double-entry bookkeeping at important Florentine religious and welfare institutions in the 15th century. These are the largest among hospitals, monasteries and convents in the city and suburbs. Prominent among them are the earliest Italian institution deputed to the care of abandoned children, namely the Ospedale degli Innocenti; and the Florentine Badia, the oldest and most prestigious urban coenoby. But women's religious institutes are also not missing from the roll call

Il saggio si sofferma sulla diffusione della ragioneria in partita doppia presso importanti enti religiosi e assistenziali fiorentini del Quattrocento. Si tratta dei maggiori tra ospedali, monasteri e conventi della città e del suburbio. Tra questi spiccano il più precoce ente italiano deputato alla cura dell’infanzia abbandonata, cioè l’Ospedale degli Innocenti; e la Badia fiorentina, il più antico e prestigioso cenobio urbano. Ma all’appello non mancano anche istituti religiosi femminili.
