Giovani, mobilità, agency: una triade perfetta?

This chapter focuses on research on young people, both within the tradition that concentrates on transitions to adulthood as well as the subcultural tradition, in relation to the phenomenon of mobility. Specifically, it reflects on how studies on young people have incorporated mobility as a central aspect for understanding young people’s biographies, driven by the so-called ‘mobility turn’ and other structural transformations that in recent years have had an increasingly profound and rapid impact on young people’s experiences. Young people and mobility are compared here with the dimensions of agency that mobility allows—especially when the context of origin is in difficult economic conditions—based on a reflection on various research projects from the last 15 years. The chapter explains how— and with what limitations—young people, mobility, and agency can be considered a perfect triad in the most current scientific production.
