The Italian earthquakes of the recent decades (Irpinia, 1980, Marche and Umbria, 1997, and Abruzzo, 2009) created a situation of emergency that has required some immediate post-earthquake reconstruction policies, which led to an increase in the demand for construction minerals. In particular, the extraction in active quarries has been intensified, and new quarries have been opened according to extraordinary procedures notwithstanding the current regulations. In such context, recycling the earthquake debris and a correct evaluation of the demand of minerals are the fundamental elements of a coherent planning of the quarrying activity, by means of which the postearthquake policies could be reconciled with the environmental protection.
