Territorial governance and the digital turn

This chapter focuses on the role digital data and technologies may have in facilitating the discourse among a diverse range of stakeholders and in effectively supporting spatial planning and territorial governance processes in practice. It is argued that the digital turn may facilitate and foster the evolution towards smarter communities and more sustainable informed spatial decision-making if proper methodologies are used to support the adoption of data and technologies. After the diffusion of digital data and technology advances in the last decades are described and most promising state-of-the art solutions highlighted this chapter critically analyses some of the most recent findings in the face of the main dimensions of territorial governance.
