‘La madre dell’ucciso’, ovvero: che cosa te ne fai di un titolo?

The essay deals with some questions related to the titles of works of art (the difference between names and titles, the operations we do when we give a title, the functions we attribute to titles, the status of designation, the status of artwork itself) and discusses the main positions emerged in the debate on this subject (Genette, Levinson, Fisher, Kobau, Barbero, etc.) with the help of a sui generis example: the Nuragic small bronze statue named (or entitled) La madre dell’ucciso (Mother of the Fallen).
