Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, a point of reference for the post-colonial studies, is herself a translator of philosophical texts that remain landmarks in contemporary culture, as well as a translator of literary texts that continue to solicit public discussion. In the focus are her reflections on the experience of translation in its aporetic being necessary and impossible at the same time, especially when it is faced with what remains marginal and therefore highlights the hegemonic relations and ambiguities underlying exchanges between cultures and languages. In this regard, Spivak's comments on her English translations of Mahasweta Devi's novels, a contemporary Indian writer in Bengali, allow to inquire into the issue of the unheard language of the subaltern woman.

Abstract
Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, a point of reference for the post-colonial studies, is herself a translator of philosophical texts that remain landmarks in contemporary culture, as well as a translator of literary texts that continue to solicit public discussion. In the focus are her reflections on the experience of translation in its aporetic being necessary and impossible at the same time, especially when it is faced with what remains marginal and therefore highlights the hegemonic relations and ambiguities underlying exchanges between cultures and languages. In this regard, Spivak's comments on her English translations of Mahasweta Devi's novels, a contemporary Indian writer in Bengali, allow to inquire into the issue of the unheard language of the subaltern woman.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
