A phase grating technique has been used in conjunction with microscope observation for analysing the strain behaviour of composite materials. Both moiré-interferometry and electrical extensometer measurements validate the experimental data. The results of some tests performed on composite laminates of graphite fibre-peek matrix are reported.

Abstract
