An experimental program has been started with the purpose of evaluating the reliability of acoustic tomography in the characterisation and non destructive testing of concrete and stone masonry. The research has been carried out analysing the acoustic wave propagation crossing selected sections of stone masonry elements. Different reconstruction algorithms, chosen between the most commonly used, were implemented for determining the distribution of waves velocity in these sections. In particular, the following iterative algorithms, Singular Value Decomposition, Regularized Singular Value Decomposition, Algebraic Reconstruction Technique, Simultaneous Iterative Reconstruction Technique, and were adapted and tested in order to evaluate their performance for practical use.
