The first results of the project Providune (LIFE07NAT/IT/000519) which are financed by LIFE+ “Nature and Biodiversity” program for the years 2009-2013, finalized to study and conservation of the habitat *2250 of Council Directive 92/43/EEC, and of the other dune habitats (*2270; 2230; 2240; 2210; 2120; 2210) are here presented. The project is implemented by the University of Cagliari in collaboration with the Provinces of Cagliari, Caserta and Matera, where, as a subject of intervention, were selected 5 Sites of Community Importance (SCI). In the province of Cagliari SIC, after preliminary geobotanical studies about dune systems and a detailed mapping of habitats for the characterization of Juniperus oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa coenosis (*2250), were made transects and permanent plots to review and monitor the recruitment in relationship to the intensity of human disturbance. There were identified threats and present critical factors and it has begun to address problems relating to the conservation of dune systems in relation to human impacts.
