The investigated area, in the village of Castelsardo (northern Sardinia, Italy), is perched on a very steep hillside that slopes from the Miocene nat limestone formations and ignimbrites down to the coast line, shaped by cliffs in the Quaternary clayey and silty deposits underlain by a tufitic formation of the Miocene. Recently landslides have occurred in the area creating alarm among the inhabitants to the extent that the council authorities have now promoted a series of studies and investigations aimed at verifying stability of the slope. Using the data acquired during geological surveys and stratigraphical boreholes along with the results of the geotechnical laboratory analyses, some geological-technical sections have been drawn up, striking N-S, perpendicular to the coast line. Referring to the main prevailing storm sector, the chacteristics of the waves on the cliff were then calculated and a dynamic analysis conducted of the effects of wave action on the stability conditions of the hillside, using the finite difference method and the numerical code FLAG.
