A series of leaching/adsorption column experiments using various solutions was carried out on two solid samples from the abandoned Pb-As mine of Baccu Locci (Sardinia, Italy) in order to assess their As release/removal potential and the influence of solution chemistry on these processes. Interestingly, the results indicate a decrease in As removal as a function of the anionic composition of the flowing solution according to the following sequence: Cl- > SO42- > HCO3-. In other words, HCO3- exhibits the highest competition with As for adsorption sites, thus favoring As release to solution from As-contaminated materials, whereas Cl- shows the lowest adsorptive competition with As, apparently favoring As adsorption.

Abstract
A series of leaching/adsorption column experiments using various solutions was carried out on two solid samples from the abandoned Pb-As mine of Baccu Locci (Sardinia, Italy) in order to assess their As release/removal potential and the influence of solution chemistry on these processes. Interestingly, the results indicate a decrease in As removal as a function of the anionic composition of the flowing solution according to the following sequence: Cl- > SO42- > HCO3-. In other words, HCO3- exhibits the highest competition with As for adsorption sites, thus favoring As release to solution from As-contaminated materials, whereas Cl- shows the lowest adsorptive competition with As, apparently favoring As adsorption.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
