After the 2009 April 6th Abruzzo earthquake, the scientific team of the University of Pisa inspected the historical centre of San Pio delle Camere, by surveying and classifying the built-up and consequently evaluating the detected damages occurred. Firstly, the identification of building typologies has been performed and the main damage mechanisms on the facades and on the internal parts of the buildings have been surveyed. Successively, a map of the equivalent PGA experimented during the earthquake, by using the conventional tools for the seismic vulnerability assessment, has been deduced. After this phase, a case study represented by slope masonry building aggregate has been investigated under theoretical and numerical way by the scientific team of the University of Naples “Federico II”. A comparison between simplified analysis results and refined analysis ones has been carried out with the purpose to know the influence of the aggregate condition on the seismic behaviour of structural units, as well as to individuate their seismic vulnerabilities in order to program retrofitting interventions
