The documentation of the fortress of Peñiscola: integrated survey for the formal analysis of the defensive system of the historic city.

This research is divided into a broader program of documentation of Spanish fortresses designed by the family of Antonelli in the Mediterranean area in the sixteenth century. In particular the study of Peñíscola, fortified city on the east coast of Spain, aims to identify the character and the peculiarities of the defense system through a digital survey of the formal, geometrical and construction characteristics, with a critical consideration on the geometrical dimensions of the Renaissance bastions and, more generally, of the entire urban defense system. It was conducted a documentation campaign with digital technology to define tools for the control of morphological system of landscape and, based on the acquired information, were carried considerations in two different areas: the technologies for the documentation of the historical heritage and the critical reading of the models provided by the surveys and by the graphical analysis of historical documents for the development of a comparison with the works of other military engineers.
