The Chronicle compiled by Canon Angelo de Jacobis (1739-1824), a native of Miano (Teramo), is – together with those by Omobono Delle Bocache, Carlo Januarii and Giacinto Tullj (with its continuation compiled by Nicola Palma) - one of the main sources for the reconstruction of the events relating to the French revolutionary period in the years 1798-1799, and more generally to the events that struck the province of Teramo during the French invasion. Compiled over a long period of time ranging from 1777 to 1823, the diary is a valuable documentation of onomastics and toponymy, as well as a detailed reference about festivals and local traditions that the Canon always describe accurately, thus representing, under a strictly anthropological and socio-linguistic features, an irreplaceable reservoir to draw upon to get the dialect and historical memory. The document was revealed by Luigi Coppa-Zuccari that realized an issue normalized by a philological point of view; neverthless not only it is not adherent to the will of the writer, but has quite a number of inaccuracies which do not allow to capture facies of the real language of the text. In any case, this document, rich of complex and aberrant solutions, is useful for identifying the layers of contemporary "intermediate" writing. In fact, the rich phenomenology which can be traced in it is both as an evidence of the language used at that time (especially for the wide opening speech models and strategies) and as a document of the continuum between the language-dialect. The book, published in the series “Documents for the History of Abruzzo” Deputation of National History Abruzzese, contains the new amended edition of the Chronicle accompanied by an extensive commentary of language and a glossary which are a contribution to the description of the repertoire using in Italian in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
