«Under Collective Construction» is an action-research programme focused on participatory methodologies addressed to foster sustainable urban development that is founded on a social and human approach. It analyzes and compares different models and experiences of participatory city-making, with the aim of demonstrating their potential. The issue is explored in terms of rules/regulations, procedures, processes, and practices, considering them all from the dual perspective of ‘formal’ vs ‘informal’. The programme’s purpose is to stress the importance of improving the synergy between ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ by developing an experimental participatory urban tool: «Temporarily Open», a space-time device addressed to enhance urban quality and strengthening social solidarity through collective works on public spaces.
