Abstract
The administrative reform plan, drawn up by the Napoleonic government in the first Ninetheen Century, aimed to rationalize the control over the territories annexed to France, entrusts an eminent role to prison architecture. To the fall of the transalpine empire, the modernity of the program pushes the 'restored' governments to pursue same reformed lines, safeguarding the connective structure of the Provinces and Prefectures or funding, if necessary, new ones (Morachiello, Teyssot 1980). Within this jurisdictional net bore new penitentiary structures; on them flow sociological suggestions, deriving from a modern aesthetics of the detention. Centric architectures, based on the principle of the panoptikon, spangle all over European and American West since the sunset of the eighteen century, finding wide diffusion in the following century. The theoretical contents differentiate these works from the structures destined to forced jobs: the 'Penal Colonies'. Due to the government pertinence, the sketch of the detentive architectures sees the involvement of the planners of the Civil Genius.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
