The research is focused on the diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and South Africa during the ‘80s, specifically referring to the first Thatcher’s terms. The relations, complicated by the racial segregation regime of the South African Government, are very important in the context of the International Community economic and commercial embargo. The Thatcher Government, with the fundamental role of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, kept the relations with the South Africa Government, convinced that the dialogue was the only way to try to achieve the end of the racial segregation regime. The international political scenario during the years of the research’s focus was very important to understand the choices and the British and South African political decisions, keeping the focus also on the decisions of the United States and the European Community.
