The series Cartas Reales from the found of the Real Cancilleria consists on a heterogenous documentation produced by the royal chancellery as well as offices. The series is stored in the archive of the Crown of Aragon and it is ordered by king. The documents on this series turned out to be extremely helpful for the understanding of the political events involving the Crown of Aragon in the Mediterranean. The documents were especially important for the study of the acquisition of the Italian territories of Sicily, Naples and Sardinia. The first part of this thesis retraces the institutional history of the archive of the Crown of Aragon and it goes on to analyze the subseries relating to Alfonso il Magnanimo. The second part includes a virtual inventory of the part of the subseries concerning the Regnum Sardiniae et Corsicae. This part of the work was brought on through the open source software Archimista 3.0. The third and last part consists on the diplomatic edition of the aforementioned documentation. This way, the present work aims to become a research tool for the in-depth analysis of the history of the Regnum Sardiniae et Corsicae as well as the Crown of Aragon in the first half of the 15th century.
