The three sections, that make up the volume, collect some studies devoted to various aspects of the multiform reality of Italian language in the last hundred years. The first part examines private writings, concentrated in the first seventy years of the century, such as the letters of S. Gemma Galgani (1878-1903) addressed to her father confessors, or those of a different kind, that in the mid-sixties were directed to Gigliola Cinquetti by her fans (belonged to every ages, regional and social class), or, still, the personal diaries of the autodidact illiterate Domenico Marcovecchio (1931-1976). To a public use, however, are addressed the contemporary “new language” for which, in the second part, we propose some lexical and textual surveys, such as the examination of semantic cromonimi in newspapers between the late nineties and the beginning of the new century, the reconnaissance of the foreign words in magazines for teenagers in the years 2003-2004, the considerations of language leaflets for drugs (even in contrasting point of view with English). The last section is devoted to the relationship between the Italian and the variability of gender (sexual): it ranges from a survey on the perception of linguistic differences between men and women in a sample of young people to comments about the connection between gender and category of comic (and their linguistic realizations), starting by some performances of today well-known comic show-women, such as Anna Maria Barbera and Luciana Littizzetto. The section and volume conclude with a critical-bibliographical review of interventions (pertaining strictly linguistic) on the relationship between language and gender, appeared in the last twenty years and related to the italoromanzo domain.
