The recent investigations conducted by the University of Cagliari have discovered great quantities of materials, among which the fine ceramics stand out. These productions, between the Republican and the Augustan ages, well cover the role of clarifiers of the opening to the new commercial routes of pan-Mediterranean scope, provided by the historical contingencies of the period. The categories of potteries most attested are the black gloss ware and the local gray paste ware, the thin walled and the Italic sigillata; the fragments of lagynos ware and italo-megarese are less attested, although significant. In addition to the strictly chronological and interpretative function proper to the origin of the production centres, the ceramics that are the topic of this paper show the evolving needs of taste perceived by the inhabitants of a city that is traditionally Punic, but which is increasingly moving towards the cultural reception of a Roman matrix.
