The essay is part of a volume that intends to offer an overview of the situation on the ways of doing film history in Italy today and is dedicated to the screenplay. The first part focuses on the methodological issues raised by the debate that has arisen in Italy and abroad around the screenplay. The second part examines the laborious genesis of the film Il bell'Antonio, directed in 1960 by Mauro Bolognini and based on the novel by Vitaliano Brancati, through different drafts of the screenplay in which Pier Paolo Pasolini also collaborated.
Il saggio fa parte di un volume che intende offrire un quadro della situazione sui modi di fare storia del cinema oggi in Italia ed è dedicato alla sceneggiatura. La prima parte si sofferma sulle questioni metodologiche suscitate dal dibattito sorto in Italia e all'estero attorno alla sceneggiatura. La seconda parte esamina la genesi laboriosa del film Il bell'Antonio, diretto nel 1960 da Mauro Bolognini e tratto dal romanzo di Vitaliano Brancati, sulla base di differenti stesure della sceneggiatura a cui ha collaborato anche Pier Paolo Pasolini.
