Abstract

The results of an experimental study aimed at beneficiating a complex ore containing bastnaesite and other rare-earth minerals, with associated barite and fuorspar are illustrated. Owing to its minero-petrographic, physico-mechanical and structural characteristics, the crude ore is not amenable to classic concentration methods, such as flotation, magnetic and gravity separation. Threfore the technical feasibility of selactive disintegration followed by size classification has been studied, whereby bastaanaesite and the othe rare-earth minerals can be concentrated into the finest size fractions. Leaching an subsequent extraction of rare-earth metals by liquid-liquid separation represents the final stage of separation.
